City Driving; Can You Ever Find A Parking Space?
City Driving; Small is better, especially around town. Size matters.
Big Is Not Always Best.
Size matters, especially when it comes to inner city driving, navigating the narrow streets and finding parking spaces in crowded places. Size also helps reduce insurance, fuel costs and repair bills. Size can affect the amount of crashes, bumps and scrapes that your car has. Size affects the price of the car, the speed and the efficiency. Size matters.
Small cars are great for the new driver, they are cheap to buy and cheap to insure. City dwellers have the choice of public transport, bicycles, motorbikes or small cars to get around in, and the car is often the safer option. People living in the city need economical means of transport, since living costs are often so high. Small cars provide the cheap alternative needed by people living in, or working in the city.
Small cars are often very reasonably priced, even for new cars, and you can often pick up a bargain under £5,000. If you are happy to look at used cars as well, that price can be further reduced.
Small means small. If you have children, dogs, shopping, passengers, or even carry large bags for work, then some of these small cars are not for you. Small also means cost efficient, fuel efficient, and practical for the city. There are benefits to owning a small car, especially in the city.
Fords are considered by many the best small cars. The Ford Fiesta and the Ford Ka will come straight to mind when thinking of city cars. They have been some of the best selling cars in the UK for years. They are always popular, cheap, easy to repair, reliable and good for the younger drivers.
The Smart Car is a relatively new entrant into the city car market, being so small you can park it anyway around you want, into a standard parking space. It is not the prettiest car to look at, but it is super convenient and designed with the city in mind.
The Mini Cooper used to be the first name you would think of when you consider small cars. The name means small. However, now they have grown up. They have priced themselves out of the entrant market and the size of the actual car has increased too. They are a good car, solid, wel built, reliable and look good, they are just at the higher end of the city car market now.
The Honda Jazz is a modern city car. Priced and built for city driving, it is surprisingly spacious, reliably efficient and has enough speed off the mark to wake up a tired city slicker. It is a well built car that unfortunately has a small engine when compared to other cars of the same size and price tag. It should not be overlooked when considering what to drive around the city.
One final car to consider is the Seat Ibiza. Such a spacious car for the price tag and it comes with some decent tech gadgets inside it that makes it stand out from the crowd. With pedestrian auto-braking, an infotainment system that links to your phone, LED lights and cruise control it is definitely more interesting inside than out. The drive is soft and you can feel disconnected from the road, but that gets better with a bit of speed, or in the sporty models. You can pick and choose options, accessories and trims. There are obvious cheap plastic parts of the interior that help to keep the cost down. There is not much bad to say about the Seat Ibiza for a city car.
