Romantic drives this Valentines Day

Valentines day 2021. The bars are closed, the cinema shut, restaurants are not taking bookings. Is it a takeaway and a night in front of the fire? Do you go for a romantic drive over snow capped hills, to watch the sunset? Just the 2 of you for miles around. No cars, no animals, just the peace and quiet of a lovely country drive. Choose to watch the sun set over the hills or along the beaches near your home?

Many people will take the former option. With the bad weather and the cold, who really wants to be stuck outside on a night like this? But if you brave it, and take a few rugs with you, what could be more romantic than heading off with your partner, holding hands, and watching the sun go down over a sheet of snow?

The English countryside has some lovely remote roads. Parking on the roadside of some of the following trips you might not see another car for hours. Surely, after weeks of lock ins and home schooling, home offices and home life, you need a break from it all?

If you are in the North of the country, the roads between Glasgow and Edinburgh are some of the most famous driving roads in the UK. With towering hills on each side and a bustling city awaiting you, it is a drive well worth the effort. Lakes, castles, hills, and glens will guide you on your quest between the cities. Upon arrival in “The Other City” in Scotland, you will surely find a nice hotel, bottle of whiskey and a fire to keep you warm.

In the middle, we have the Lake District and the Peak District. Both offering romantic alone time, just you, your partner, and your car. Make sure that you bring some good music and something to keep you warm. The roads around Lake Windermere and Thirlmere provided poetic inspiration for Wordsworth and Coleridge.  What will they inspire in you?

In the south you have the Cotswolds, the Surrey Hills, the coastline of Devon and Cornwall or the New Forest of Hampshire. So much beauty to choose from depending which side of the south you live.
