The relationship between you and your car
The relationship starts great. New smells, new feels, new things to play with and knobs to turn. The handling, the responsiveness, the way that you feel completely as one. Your new car responds so well to the road, it makes you smile. The efficiency is nothing like you have experienced before. The get up and go leaves all past cars in your wake. It is love at first sight, and deeper love on first drive.

Your shiny new car has that welcoming new car feel and smell. You look at it and you know that this is the car for you. It is bigger, faster, better than anything you have driven before, and you just know that it is going to be a major part of your life for years to come.
You admire the colour of your new car and you want to show it off to your friends. You make excuses to go for a drive that you have never needed to before. Going to the shops is now a joy, taking your kids out for a drive to put them to sleep instead of rocking them in your arms and singing to them.
You buy your new car perfume, drinks, you take it out for dates. You want only the best accessories for your new partner, so you install speakers, car kits, a new radio. You want to protect your new family member, so you get seat covers, a car cover, and you only park it where it is safe and warm.
You hope that the new relationship feeling will never end.
But then…..

What happens if you have a bump? Or when it needs a service, and the mechanic tells you that something is going wrong? The car, like your relationship with it, begins to break down. You start to hear annoying sounds that were not there before. It does not hold you like it used to. You start to feel the suspension giving up. Your car starts drinking too much (oil or petrol). You develop a gambling habit (Will the car complete the journey?). Things start to go wrong.
When you start looking at other models and visualizing how you look in them, that is the beginning of the end. Your friends have a prettier car. Someone has a faster car. The colour of your car has faded. The scratches make it look old and ugly. You have stopped paying attention to the details and treating it nice. Your car stops treating you the way that you want to be treated, and the telltale signs of the end of the romance are neigh.
