Ugly cars to end the Month of Love

Whist there are some cars that you drool over, there are others that you walk away from. There are some cars that have fallen out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. They have gone for a swim in Ugly lake and scared the fish out of the water. These are cars that are never going to be stolen, even if you leave your keys in the ignition and the windows down.

Cars are practical, functional and for some manufacturers that is all that matters. If the car gets from A to B some people do not care what it looks like, drives like and if it turns heads getting there.

If you are getting to the end of the Month of Love and you are still single, look at your car. When you arrive to pick up your date, are they going to be happy to get into it? Would they close the curtains, turn off the lights and pretend to be out?

The Fiat Multipla is one of these such cars. Looking at the multi-layered front end there is a question of who designed it and why. The bonnet sticks out like it belongs to one car that the windscreen was then dropped on top of. Whilst it is spacious and has excellent visibility for the drivers, it is unknown why there are 3 front seats. It looks a little like an underwater craft. Why, we do not know.

The Reliant Robin, made famous by Delboy and Rodders (The Reliant Regal), is perhaps one of the more famous cars on this list. One day it could become a collectable. Until then, if you own one, it is probably best to leave it in a garage covered up.

The Nissan Cube. The clue is in the name. It is a cube, on wheels. It was sold in the UK for just one year. Low sales and a poor conversion rate were blamed for the car not continuing. To be fair to the designers, the wrap-around back window gives excellent visibility when reverse parking. The kids have loads to look out at, which is better than looking at the interior. It is designed for parking ease. Cubes are easier to park in

The Austin Allegro is famous for being ugly. For years the UK Public ridiculed this car on a popular TV Show, but you can see why. It looks like that kind of car that might have been designed by a young child, in the “Draw a car” end of year art competition. Now a classic car and quite rare, with only around 200 left registered in the UK, it will not be around for long.

The BMW i3 is a modern, electric car that is very functional, and ecofriendly. But look at it. Does it look like that kind of car that will turn heads for the right reason?  It looks like a Smart car, very far removed from the BMW models that you pass everyday.

I don’t know if you remember the Lada Riva? If we are from a similar generation, you will remember the jokes about the skip on wheels. The designers also chose colours that did not help the car to be anything other than ugly.

Any list of ugly cars can not be complete without mention of the early model Skodas.  The Skoda Estelle being possibly the ugliest of the Skodas. Luckily this car was discontinued and less than 10 remain on the roads in the UK at the moment.
